(Ex 20:17) The Hebrew and Greek words for "covet" denote inordinate desire and lustful longing. This command "crowns" the Decalogue and lies at the root of breaking all the other Commandments. It warns that we turn away from the inner proclivity of desiring anything which belongs to another- another person's spouse, house, property, wealth, or personal possessions. Repent for the greed, covetousness, and selfishness which mark our culture. Repent for any personal acts of lust and covetousness. Intercede for the positive fulfillment of this commandment-that we lovingly covet God's blessings for others-that God will bless them with employment, prosperity, fulfilling healthy relationships, good standing, enduring faith, and everything that will make for their well-being and eternal reward.
